There are two ways to install the FortressDB plugin, automatic or manual, as follows:
Automatic Installation (Recommended)
- Login to your WordPress admin dashboard – e.g. https://mywebsite.com/wp-admin.
- Open Plugins > Add New.
- Search for “FortressDB” and select “FortressDB”
- Activate “FortressDB” from your Plugins page
- Upload the “FortressDB” plugin to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
- Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu in WordPress
Create a FortressDB Account
FortressDB is a freemium product. This means there is both a free version and various paid versions (for different levels of use and requirements).
The free version is great, and will likely be suitable for the majority of users.
To use the FortressDB plugin you need to create an account. Click on “FortressDB” in the WordPress admin menu, you’ll see a screen like this.
We keep the information required to a bare minimum, literally name, email and password.
You will also need to select a location for your database. We have three main choices:
- US – United States of America
- EU – Europe
- UK – United Kingdom
That’s it, you’re up and running!
You can now create your own data tables securely. You can either create your own data table from the plugin, or integrate with a form plugin like Forminator which will create the data table for you.
For more information look at the data tables documentation.
Upgrading to a paid licence
There’s a free version, which is probably sufficient for smaller companies, but if you want to upgrade you can do so directly from the FortressDB plugin in WordPress. Click on the “Licence Details” in the menu. The currency is local to the region where your database is stored. For example, if you selected “US” you will see prices in $ dollars. You can either pay monthly or annually (annual subscription is cheaper, effectively you pay for 10 months instead of 12).
